I’m always amazed when big companies do good things. I mean, it’s not like that have to. I’ve been mulling this over lately due to all the talk of about a certain company with a swoosh that started a new ad campaign. I won’t get into that discussion here--my sneakers aren’t fast enough to keep up. But when I was tinkering around with a theme for this week’s World Music Show (9/15) I merged this chatter with what I know about some record labels that are actually out in the world doing good things with sincerity.
I’m not sure about you but I could sure use a musical break after this week’s topsy-turvy news cycle. Added to this, was for many, back-to-school and the end of summer goings-on. Phew! So wouldn’t it be nice to unwind with a couple of hours of fantastic world music? I think so. That’s why on this week’s World Music Show (9/8), I’ll attempt to whisk you away with travels to places such as Cuba, Brazil, France and Uganda. Mixed within and without these, will be some new music from a variety of folks.
Sometimes I come across some pretty amazing things when I’m culling together tracks for the World Music Show. From musicians who have unique stories or have invented new ways to deliver their messages to well loved musicians who have decided to dip their guitar picks into the vast well of World Music.
Ah vacation. What a great time to tune out, or tune in perhaps. On this week’s World Music Show (8/18), I’m continuing my thread from last week of vacation-tinged report. But this edition won’t be filled with beach-beats or wave-inspired tunes. On the other hand, it’ll be crafted with some great Latin tunes of from many corners of this huge genre. And it’ll be dotted with some gems of Afrobeat, some Dutch music and some classic Ska.
Now if you want to dig your head in the sand to get a better sense of what I’ll be playing, then get your shovel ready.
