Tech Researchers Working on Flame-Proof Battery

A Virginia Tech researcher is working on a solution to the problem that is causing Samsung cellphones to spontaneously burst into flames, causing a massive recall.

Samsung distributed one million Galaxy Note 7 cellphones and is calling all of them back, because of over 100 fires in the first month of their release.

Lou Madsen is an associate professor of chemistry at Virginia Tech who has developed an ion gel formula that could fix that.

Working under a $400,000 dollar National Science Foundation Grant, he says he has already produced a working battery and is collaborating with researchers in the Netherlands and Australia to get it from the laboratory to the market.
