Supreme Court Upholds Trumps Travel Ban

The United States Supreme Court has just upheld President Trumps ban on foreign visitors and immigrants from six nations, ruling that the President has the power to do it on his own.

The Supreme Court effectively overturns decisions from California’s Ninth Circuit and Virginia’s Fourth that blocked the order.

Carl Tobias, Law Professor at the University of Richmond, said, “The travel ban, the Supreme Court found, was based on valid exercise of Presidential authority, basically, substantial deference, by the court, to the President, in the area of national security.”

The justices had already issued an order in December at the request of Trump’s lawyers to set aside the lower court rulings and allow the travel ban to take full effect.
