The General Assembly is back today (1/10) with new rules and a new Speaker of the House.
“My words are simply inadequate to express the honor I feel today standing before you as speaker of the House. I will simply say thank you,” said Delegate Kirk Cox.
The unanimous election of Delegate Cox to speakership followed a contentious election season in which House Republicans lost a two-thirds majority.
Shortly after being sworn in, the new Speaker told his colleagues he was looking forward serving in the chamber during it’s 400 year anniversary next year. “This House and its members have shaped and molded the arc of history that brings us where we are today.”
The former educator vowed to strive for bi-partisan, practical solutions during his tenure.
