The Howard Hughes Medical Institute has chosen VCU and 32 other colleges and universities for its 2018 Inclusive Excellence Initiative intended to help find ways to involve students in science. Each school gets a $1 million dollar grant over five years.
Dr. Rosalyn Hargraves is program director for the initiative at VCU. “This influx of funds will provide us an opportunity to work with faculty, our community college partners, and really improve both instruction and also help with the administrative process of transfer students.”
She noted that a great deal of attention and effort goes into integrating recent high school graduates into college life. The HHMI grant focuses on students already in college. “Creating an environment where our students can Integrate themselves into the institution and take advantage of all the resources we have available to facilitate student success.”
