Flu Season Could Surpass Swine Flue Pandemic, Has Not Peaked Yet

This year’s flu season is now more intense than any other since the 2009 swine flu pandemic, and both federal and state officials say it will get worse.

The CDC says it will definitely be worse than the 2014-15 flu season when 34 million Americans got the flu and 56,000 died.

“Flu is a serious disease, it always makes people really sick,” said Diane Woolard, an epidemiologist at the Virginia Department of Health. “All of our graphs are still going up, so flu is definitely out there and it is circulating all across Virginia and we expect it to continue for some weeks to come.”

She says it is hard to put a number on it because so many people don’t report it, they just gone home sick. She says if you are home sick, stay there. Don’t spread it.
