President Trump has announced that the U.S. will withdraw from Iran deal negotiated during the Obama Administration. Republicans and Democrats in Congress disagree strongly.
7th District Congressman Dave Brat, a Republican, said the deal didn’t serve the U.S. interests, wasted taxpayer money, and didn’t stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons. “We had tremendous leverage on them prior that was working and so, I think we have to go back to that strategy and let them know it’s not just the ICBM nuclear threat, it’s their behavior across the board and enter the treaty negotiations again to get a better deal.”
Sen. Tim Kaine, in a television interview, said the President is wrong and points to remarks by the Secretary of Defense. “James Mattis, who is no softie, and, in fact, an Iran hawk, has told the Armed Services Committee, in open hearing, that Iran is complying with the deal. We should be enforcing the deal not blowing up the deal.”
