The Robert Bobb Group last night (3/27) presented a $77 million proposed 2018 fiscal budget for the City of Petersburg.
Interim Finance Director Nelsie Birch explained that a 10% pay cut imposed on city employees last year is restored and city government is completely restructured and having a clear delineation of responsibilities and being able to hold people responsible for their roles and the functions they perform is vitally important to the success of the future of the City of Petersburg.
She also says, 12 jobs are cut but the proposal invests heavily in public safety to keep and attract qualified police, fire, and emergency communications employees. “We’ve adjusted that to really start to reinvest both from the salary perspective and in equipment that is needed for them carry out the functions that they are required to do every day,” said Birch.
City Council will examine the budget plan at a series of public meetings over the next few weeks.
