The 7th District Democratic Primary is next month. There are now two candidates hoping to win their party’s nomination to face incumbent Republican Dave Brat.
Abigail Spanberger said, this week, that if elected, she’d have announced town hall meetings in every county during her first year in office. “It shouldn’t be a huge inconvenience, it shouldn’t be a challenge for people to be able to have the opportunity to listen to their representative or ask questions of their representative.”
Congressman Brat said he’s had over 350 public meetings since 2017. Last week, he appeared with 4th District Democratic Congressman Don McEachin. “An open event, open to the public, publicized ahead of time. The Wall Street Journal was there, it was Facebook live, three or 400 people showed up, we had a rational civil exchange. If you can have civil exchange, I’m all in favor of it.”
