Local PBS Documentary “Bombs Away” Premiere Event Oct. 30

On the evening of Thursday, October 30, the University of Virginia Center for Politics and Community Idea Stations will host the premiere of their new documentary, Bombs Away: LBJ, Goldwater and the 1964 Campaign that Changed It All, at the Library of Virginia. The showing will take place at 7:00 p.m. with introductory comments from U.Va. Center for Politics Director Larry J. Sabato, and Community Idea Stations President and CEO Curtis Monk. At the reception preceding the showing, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe will make comments and present Prof. Sabato with the Emmy award for The Kennedy Half Century, the U.Va. Center for Politics and Community Idea Station’s previous documentary project. The Library of Virginia is located at 800 East Broad Street in Richmond, and the reception beforehand will begin at 6:00 p.m.

Downton Abbey Crosses the Pond Early for Season 5 Preview Celebration at Altria Theater

Two days ahead of the official U.S. television premiere of Downton Abbey, The Community Idea Stations will host a free preview of the show’s highly anticipated fifth season --Friday, January 2 at 8:00 p.m. at the newly-renovated Altria Theater. The sneak peak of the first hour of the Season Premiere is open to the public and features the first part of the two-hour television premiere airing on WCVE PBS/WHTJ PBS on Sunday, January 4 at 9:00 p.m.

Dissecting Science with NPR's Nell Greenfieldboyce

NPR Science Correspondent Nell Greenfieldboyce will be at the studios of 88.9 WCVE Richmond Public Radio on Wednesday, November 12th to give an informal talk on Dissecting Science Through the Lens of NPR Science Reporting.  Presented by the Community Idea Stations’ Science Matters initiative.  Nell Greenfieldboyce has been covering important science topics at NPR for the past 9 years.

The People’s Debate: State-wide Broadcast on October 13

Senator Mark Warner will debate challenger Ed Gillespie during a state-wide television broadcast, October 13, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. The debate will be held at the WCVE PBS TV studios in Richmond.

Moderator: Mr. Bill Fitzgerald, WTVR CBS-6 News Anchor.
