On this week’s World Music Show (3/2) it’s going to be a bunch of Madness (sadly, not the band--later this month though) because I’ll be playing new music.
On the bracket featuring all the newness will be tracks from Making Movies and Ruben Blades--they partnered up to make some really cool music. And we’ll hear from another legend (akin to Ruben), Carlos Santana, who has a new album coming out called “In Search of Mona Lisa.”
Filling in the rest of the new brackets will be songs from the film “Roma,” another beautiful song from the French singer Petite Celine, and some booty shaking (can I say that on an NPR station?) from Ibibio Sound Machine, Animanz & Juanita Euka, and another new cut off the last album by the Golden Voice of Africa Salif Keita.
To fill in other brackets, I’ll feature music from La Vida Boheme, Nina Miranda, The Turbans, Newpoli, the DJ Nickodermus and We Are Enfant Terrible, who are quite adept at some electronic beats.
Not to be missed either are songs from Ali Farka Toure (a track from his first, re-mastered album called “The Source), Angelique Kidjo’s take on the Talking Heads “Listening Wind,” and a throw back to Ghana in the 1970s with a highlife cut by the City Boys Band.
Oh, lest I forget, we’ll also hear some interesting rap music from two distinct regions--CRO from Germany and MC Bjor from Iceland, so maybe those can be your wild card (is that a thing with brackets?)
Either way, tune into the World Music Show Saturday night at 8pm on WCVE Music. 93.1 or 107.3FM or stream it via this website. Come back here when the show airs because you can see live streaming track listings. Follow me on Twitter @wcveworldmusic or on Facebook at the World Music Show on WCVE.
