Composer Ola Gjeilo was born in Norway in 1978 and moved to the United States in 2001 to begin composition studies at the Juilliard School. He’s a talented composer and pianist, who is now the composer-in-residence with the British vocal ensemble Voces8. Ola is very interested in film, and his music often draws inspiration from movies.
“Winter Songs” is a new album of his compositions and arrangements for choir and strings. It features new arrangements of familiar Christmas carols and new, “wintry” compositions inspired by the season. Gjeilo performs on the piano, with the string group 12 Ensemble and the Choir of Royal Holloway, all led by conductor Rupert Gough.
We recently sat down to discuss Ola’s compositional style and this new album, which you should definitely check out HERE!
Yours in good music,
