Virginia Opera is doing something a little different to open their 2018-19 season. They are presenting Kurt Weill’s “Street Scene,” hailed by critics as the “first truly American opera.” The score features a combination of jazz, Broadway and operatic tunes. It won the very first Tony Award for Best Original Score in 1947.
Virginia Opera’s Artistic Director (and conductor) Adam Turner stopped by our WCVE Music studios to chat about this production. Performances are tonight (10/12/18) at 8:00 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. in the Carpenter Theatre.
Yours in good music,
Classical Music Host, WCVE Music
