The Firehouse Theatre is presenting a new musical fantasia “Preludes” about the life of composer Sergei Rachmaninoff now through June 10th. The show focuses on the writer's block and hypnotherapy treatment Rachmaninoff underwent after the disastrous premiere of his Symphony No. 1. This is a creative work by composer Dave Malloy, who combines Rachmaninoff’s music with his own original compositions.
Director Billy Christopher Maupin and Georgia Rogers Farmer (who plays Rachmaninoff’s therapist Nikolai Dahl) talked with me about the Richmond production. Enjoy our chat!
