Composer Laura Schwendinger is in town with the Richmond Symphony this weekend, thanks to a residency program Music Alive: New Partnerships. This national program is designed to establish new relationships between composers and orchestras, and to help orchestras present new music to the public and build support for new music within their institutions.
Laura stopped by our 88.9 WCVE studios to discuss her work “Waking Dream” for flute and orchestra, which will be performed by the symphony and Principal Flutist Mary Boodell. You can hear the concerts tonight at 6:30 p.m. and tomorrow (Saturday) at 8:00 p.m. at the Carpenter Theatre. Also on the program is the Symphony No. 2 by Johannes Brahms and Appalachian Spring by Aaron Copland (Saturday only).
Take a listen to our chat and hear some of “Waking Dream” before you head to the concert hall!
Yours in good music,
Classical Music Host, 88.9 WCVE
