WCVE PBS is proud to be the presenting station for Feeling Good About America: The 1976 Presidential Election. The one-hour film is scheduled for 818 airings in 146 markets, representing coverage to over 85% of the total U.S. population.
Feeling Good About America is the latest documentary collaboration between WCVE PBS and the U.Va. Center for Politics. It chronicles the close race between incumbent Republican President Gerald Ford and Democratic candidate and Georgia Governor Jimmy Carter. The documentary explores Ford's pardon of Richard Nixon, Carter's primary strategy in a crowded field, and the challenge to Ford posed by Ronald Reagan for the Republican nomination. Using a combination of archival clips and interviews, the film examines why the mostly positive 1976 Presidential election differs from the more recent divisive and negative presidential campaigns.
