Going Out In Style: How to Throw a Downton Watch Party

The final episode of Downton Abbey is coming up on March 6. Enjoy it with friends! Here at the Community Idea Stations, we’ve put together all of the ingredients you need to make your party a royal success. Whether you want to be as classy as Violet Crawley, as progressive as Edith, as ambitious as Daisy, or as conservative as Carson, we’ve got some fun ideas to help you celebrate the end of the season-- at home-- in style. Here it is--step by step-- how to throw a memorable and fun Downton Watch Party:

Dress in style like Lady Mary. Whether you prefer the 1925 fashions of Lady Mary in season six, the romantic Edwardian looks of season one, or the working class attire of the staff - watching the final episode is sure to be more enjoyable when you channel your favorite characters and dress the part! It doesn’t take much effort to transport your outfit to the Downton era. Here are some tips from Maymont’s Nancy Lowden.

Dine like the Dowager. Satisfy your taste buds with some classic cuisine from the era of kings and queens!  Enjoy some Croque Monsieur, Cauliflower Soup with truffle oil, or other delicacies. Indulge your appetite like a British Royal by borrowing some recipes from Downton Abbey Cooks

Drink like Lord Grantham. Try some special Downton cocktails that will make you think you’re back in post-Edwardian England. Enjoy these recipes from our 2016 Downton Abbey preview reception. There are more cocktail ideas on our Downton Abbey Pinterest Board.

Bake like Mrs. Patmore. Perhaps a Downton tea party is more your style. Sara Ayyash, the Executive Pastry Chef at The Jefferson Hotel, has shared her signature scone recipe topped with Devonshire cream for you to wow your guests.

Dance like Lady Rose. What would any party be without dancing? Here are a few tips on how to do favorite 1920's dance moves: Charleston Step, Waltz Box Step, Basic Elements of How to Swing.

DJ like Jack Ross. While phonographs may be a thing of the past, jazz music is still alive and well! Here is a playlist we think you'll enjoy for your party: Downton Abbey Watch Party Jazz Mix

Decorate like Mrs. Hughes. You want to make sure your party pops! Check out our Pinterest page to see ideas on how to decorate your soirée including DIY tea cup candles, quote bubbles for photo opps and more!

Entertain like Cora Crawley. Before your guests watch the final episode of Downton Abbey, have fun with these neat party games! From Downton Bingo to Downton Mad Libs to Downton Trivia, here are a few games to entertain your guests.
