Financial support isn’t the only way to give… become a Community Idea Stations Volunteer!
Volunteers are essential in helping the Community Idea Stations provide quality programming and services throughout central Virginia. It all starts with you.

Did you know that we also depend on support from service-minded people like you who give of their time and expertise as volunteers? Through volunteering, you help support public television and radio, meet new people, learn new skills, give something back to the community, and make a difference!

Membership Campaigns: Individual Volunteers
Make new friends and learn more about public television and radio in the process. Volunteering is a great opportunity for senior citizens, students and others who want to get involved by donating their time, energy and expertise. Pledge volunteers are needed to answer phones and take pledges from viewers and listeners who would like to become members or to renew their memberships. Training and refreshments are provided.

Membership Campaigns: Group Volunteers
See what it’s like behind the scenes in our studios. Groups of 4-6 people are needed to answer phones and take pledges during our pledge campaigns. It’s a great way for a business, service organization or club to have fun together and help the Community Idea Stations raise the money needed to deliver great national and locally-produced programming throughout central Virginia. Volunteer groups receive on-air recognition for their efforts, which may include verbal acknowledgment, shots of volunteers on camera, and/or on-air display of the group’s name. Training and refreshments are provided.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
We also rely on dedicated people to undertake a variety of other duties. We need help from time to time with children’s activities, clerical duties, front desk reception, special events and more. You really can make a difference. Training is always provided.

“I volunteer at the (Community) Idea Stations - for the radio and TV pledge campaigns. I see it as a win-win proposition - the Idea Stations get the benefit of my time, answering phones, working with donors to collect pledge information. And for me, it's a great way to have fun - and meet a wide variety of other interesting members. It's only fair to give back to an organization that has been a part of my daily routine for so long. I listen to public radio at home, in the car and sometimes at work. I watch public TV at home and am astounded at the depth and breadth of programming. My life is enriched by this great gift and I don't want to imagine a world where there is no public broadcasting.”
