Virginia Home Grown July Plant of the Month: Bean Vines

Peggy Cornett, Curator of Plants for Monticello, talks about two types of bean vines – ‘Caracalla Bean (Snail Vine) and ‘Hyacinth Bean.‘
Original Airdate: Tuesday, 7-26-2011

Years ago I purchased some seeds when visiting Monticello and planted them last year and was pleased with the outcome. This year I planted two of the seeds at my front door and the vine is 15 ft. high and 6 ft. wide and is loaded with great smelling purple blooms. I agree it is one of the most beatiful vines I have seen.
I did not know you could eat the beans, not sure I want to try them.
Enjoyed the video, keep up the good work.
