I was viewing your show on 9-27-11 on channel 23. You had a young lady whos name escapes me she was talking about mulching over all. My question is what type of mulch did she suggest using to mix in or put on top of the clay dirt and grass that would break down and help the root system of the grass. and what was the name of the mulch that she was using and where can I get that brand from

Hello John,

It is a mulch consisting of 50% hardwood bark and 50% pine bark that has been composted for about 6 months and is often used as a soil conditioner. I did not notice a specific name mentioned - but I have found a similar product at local garden retailers such as The Great Big Greenhouse. I always mix it in with the clay soil - about half clay and half mulch - whenever I plant shrubs around my home and have used it as a top mulch as well. You may be able to find out more about this product at the Norfleet Products Inc. website.

I hope this was of some help and thanks for watching Virginia Home Grown. – Marshall
