Virginia Home Grown

Celebrating 10 Years Making Central Virginia’s Gardens Grow

Although there is possibility of more snow on the ground, the thoughts of many central Virginians are turning to Spring, warmer weather and getting ready to begin their gardening and outdoor projects.

Now in its tenth season, “Virginia Home Grown” will continue to be a resource for central Virginia gardeners (and aspiring gardeners) and those who enjoy an outdoor lifestyle. The WCVE PBS-produced series is broadcast live from the studio of WCVE PBS, and features guest experts providing in-studio demonstrations, call-in segments, and pre-recorded visits to public and private gardens in central Virginia, as well as local farms.

The one-hour program, which airs monthly from March through October, is once-again hosted by Richard Nunnally, Extension Agent Emeritus with Chesterfield County and is co-hosted by Amy Barton Williams.

The season premiere will feature a visit to Gryffon's Aerie in Crozet where Ramona Huff will talk about Heritage Breeds and a demonstration with Charlie Thornton who will talk about soil testing for your upcoming gardening projects. In future episodes, Nunnally and Williams include travel to Agriberry to talk with Anne Geyer about Raspberries, a visit with Clara Stokes of Belona Botanical Farm in Powhatan to find the secret of great cut flowers, Van Anderson will teach us about proper tree planting, and a look at how agriculture is being taught in a classroom setting.
