Virginia Currents Classic: “Virginia Voice”

“Connect by listening.” That’s the motto for Virginia Voice, a non-profit radio reading service for people with vision impairments, as well as for people who have difficulty holding books. Virginia Voice offers daily readings of current publications over the internet and by free closed circuit radio. We visit one listener who says that Virginia Voice is like a bridge – linking people who once felt isolated from the outside world.

Virginia Currents is for the whole family! If you are a longtime citizen of the Commonwealth, there’s always the familiar and the sentimental – the scenes of your childhood – people from your past and stories that make you proud to be part of our glorious state. For children, the program offers the chance to learn about home and place. For parents, it’s an opportunity to share your pride in the natural beauty and  culture of your community.

The 19th season of this award-winning newsmagazine series is produced in the studios of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting.

Virginia Currents has won the coveted 2009 Gabriel Award for “A Virginia Currents Thanksgiving.” The half-hour Virginia Currents program received this top recognition in the local television category, among a national field of entries. Introduced by Catholic media professionals, the Gabriel Award recognizes the uplifting and inspiring stories of film, radio, and television.
