Season 21 begins in October

What Do You Stand For project
“What Do You Stand For?” public art project

Join host May-Lily Lee during the month of October for Virginia Currents. The first week is a Virginia Currents classic from Season 16, when we visited the Middle Peninsula to see how oyster gardening could help save the Chesapeake Bay. The start to Season 21 begins when we meet the 6th grade artists chosen to have their work displayed in ART 180’s “What Do You Stand For?” public art project. Also in October, we will get a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the most innovative farms in the nation, and we’ll find out how living on the James River for 28 days impacted high school students and their teachers.

The Show Dates:

October 6: We travel to the Middle Peninsula to see how growing oysters on reefs and oyster gardening can help save the Chesapeake Bay. Then we go to the Northern Neck and meet Lois Dolman, the Postmaster of Zacata. (From 2007) VC #1629e

October 13: Meet the 6th grade artists chosen to have their work displayed in ART 180's “What Do You Stand For?” Through painted 4'x8' wooden canvases that will soon be exhibited on buildings throughout Richmond, these budding artists speak up on individuality, anti-bullying, anti-peer pressure as well as tell their life stories. VC #2101

October 20: Join Virginia Currents for a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the most innovative farms in the nation, Polyface Farms, in Swoope, Virginia. We learn about Polyface’s unconventional farming principles driven by the goal of “emotionally, economically and environmentally enhancing agriculture.” VC #2102

October 27: Virginia Currents paddles with a dozen students from across Virginia as they get a first-hand lesson on the importance of preserving our country’s founding river for centuries to come. Find out how living on the James River for 28 days and across 340 miles impacted these high school students and teachers. VC #2103

I'd like to receive a copy of this segment on Virginia Currents, featuring Art 180's "What Do You Stand For?" middle school children, of Henderson and Bousall Middle Schools.

This was an awesome exhibit, seen tonight at First Friday's Art Walk. It will also be at the Richmond Folk Festival!

Hi Margaret - FYI - the Virginia Currents segment featuring Art 180 will be aired during the season premiere on October 13th. After the show airs, you can access the video in our archives of previously aired Virginia Currents shows at http://ideastations.org/video-browser/recent/virginia-currents

Hope this helps.
