Summer Fun with Reading!

Ah, summertime! It is time for fun and relaxation and kids love it! For parents, it might be a different story. Some parents are anxious about getting their children ready for kindergarten and parents of school-aged children are ofter concerned about academic setbacks known as the “summer slump.” The PBS KIDS Summer Reading Initiative is here to make reading fun for the whole family!
The Community Idea Stations’s Ready To Learn Program has teamed up with PBS KIDS to offer resources that help kids continue reading and learning throughout summer vacation. For a starter, we have scheduled ten weeks of special programming. This week, June 18-22, will feature adventures with Arthur’s baby sister, Kate. Check for broadcast times here.
To add to the fun, the iVillage Summer Reading Challenge has six weeks of fun, easy, reading-related assignments for pre-readers (2-5 year-olds) and early readers (6-9 year-olds) that will ensure that your kids keep learning all summer long. Soar with Reading has tips for travel time and an activity kit. For more information, visit our Summer Reading webpage. Most importantly... relax and have fun with reading!!!!
Trish,
Sorry that I can't be there to join you for reading Monday. Some time we should talk about how RfR selects schools. I would like to institutionalize the process which is now somewhere between anecdotal and personal. E
