Protest Songs From Around The World

Like peanut butter & jelly, the themes for this week’s World Music Show (10/21) go together rather well. Ok, the themes of “New Music” and “Protest Songs,” is nothing like one of my favorite sandwich combinations. It was a long shot at best, but that shouldn’t deter you from checking out this week’s stellar line-up.

For the newness, we’ll be checking out a handful of never-before-heard bands (on this show at least), to some new tracks from some of the new bands that we’ve been featuring lately.

Heavy Metal Cumbia?

I love open-ended questions for leads. As in, what do you get when you cross Heavy Metal with Cumbia music? Glad you asked, because on this week’s World Music Show (10/14) you’ll get the answer.

And that answer will come from my interview with the leader of the Oakland, Ca based band called La Misa Negra (who’s name is a reference to a Heavy Metal group—to find out which one, you’ll have to tune in).

No Time to Mess Around

I’ve got a basket full of new music to unwrap on this week’s World Music Show (9/9). Ok, wait—that’s a lie. Really, every track on this week’s show was downloaded digitally. Is that redundant? Because when you download something doesn’t that imply “digitally”?

What's Happening!

Be forewarned—I’m going to date myself. And it’s not the first time. It’s all about What’s Happening. And no, not the “Hey, Hey, Hey, What’s Happening” from the classic TV show with Rerun and the gang, though that’s what I thought of when I came up with this title (hence, the dating myself). But for this week’s World Music Show (9/2), we’re going to find out What’s Happening!

Nomadic Travels

It’s amazing to me how many themes I can squeeze out of the idea of “world” and “travel.” For instance, on this week’s World Music Show (8/19), we’re going to be taking some nomadic travels.

This is thanks in part to some new music from a band who, after a 10-year-hiatus, has a new CD out and in which they describe themselves as musical nomads. What could be better than that as a description or theme for this week’s show? It’s hard to beat.

So, be prepared to have this theme beaten to death on this week’s show—well, ok, it won’t be too bad.
