Stranger Things

There have been some strange things in the world of World Music. Sure, some happen to think that World Music involves the spiritual, ethereal sounds of wind chimes, chants and handclaps led by people wearing burlap sacks or something of the sort. However relevant or not those styles of World Music are, in my book, I seldom give them any credence. But more importantly, what does this have to do with this week’s World Music Show (3/11)?

In a word: Zilch.

Get Under the Covers

So what do you get when you cross Hall & Oates, U2, Lou Reed and Morrissey? Well, you get a taste on what to expect for this week’s World Music Show (1/7).

That’s right, on this week’s show, we’re going to take a journey into one of my favorite realms—that of the World Music cover tunes. The entire show is dedicated to the fine art of songs that were redesigned with World Beats. From classic Pop tunes to some alternative tracks, these covers are going to hit almost every genre you can think of.

Out With The Old, In With The...

For the new year I thought I’d start this week’s World Music Show (1/7) off right by playing a bunch of new music. But then I remembered that it’s only been a week into the new year, so there’s nothing new to choose from. However, due to the enormous bounty that was in last year’s crop of new music, I will have some leftover goodness that will seep into this week’s show.

All that, however, will be saved for hour two of the show. Because in hour one, I was able to get a special guest into the studio to talk about a very interesting and rewarding project.

Hop Aboard

There's plenty of room for you to hop aboard the mobile musical camel on this week's World Music Show (4/23). From some really great desert music by one of the best rated guitarists in the world, to some classic Juju tunes as well as some lost and found Cuban music, this week's show should have something for everyone, whether you like to ride camels or not.

This is a Journey into Sound

It'll be a combination of African music on this week's World Music Show (1/23). From Afro-Latino to Afro-Portuguese to African Blues, we'll dip our toe into the pool of beautiful sounds that this continent has to offer. Plus, we'll also check out some strong female voices from around the globe as well as some Asian Groove music.
