Raise a Reader This Summer!

Any time can be learning time, and summer is a perfect opportunity to raise a reader. Starting June 4th, the Community Idea Stations’ Ready To Learn program will be hosting the PBS KIDS Raising Readers - Summer program. This multi-platform learning initiative is designed to address the learning losses children experience when they’re away from the classroom – known as the “summer slide.”
The PBS KIDS Raising Readers - Summer program offers 10 weeks of on-air programming, online activities and local events to encourage families throughout our central Virginia community to explore reading, writing and language.
On Friday, June 15, PBS KIDS premieres the Super WHY! Around the World Adventure, an on-air event featuring two new episodes of Super WHY!. Learn more about the Super WHY! Around the World Adventure here.
And starting on June 4, PBS KIDS will also focus on literacy with 10 weeks of themed programming (check TV schedules for air times). The line-up includes:

Soar with Reading–Let Your Imagination Take Flight
JetBlue and PBS KIDS are proud to partner on the Soar with Reading–Let Your Imagination Take Flight project. The partnership was created out of a shared mission – to help raise readers. At SoarWithReading.com, you and your child can find lots of fun things to do, including tools to help you track your child’s reading minutes over the summer or map the places your child has visited both physically and imaginatively. There’s also a feature where you can upload photos of your child with Hooper and create a postcard that you can print or send to friends and families so you all can share your child’s reading adventures. As Hooper would say, “check it out!”
