The Speakers Bureau

The Community Idea Stations Speakers Bureau consists of key staff members of the Community Idea Stations who are available to speak on a variety of topics regarding public broadcasting (television and radio) and the media in general.

The Community Idea Stations Speakers Bureau is a free service as a part of our public communication and outreach programs.

Curtis MonkCurtis Monk
President and CEO, Commonwealth Public Broadcasting

Curtis Monk is President and Chief Executive Officer of Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, a family of locally-owned public television and radio stations headquartered in Richmond, Virginia. Commonwealth Public Broadcasting is the parent company the Community Idea Stations (WCVE PBS, WCVE HD and WCVW PBS, Richmond; WHTJ PBS and WHTJ HD, Charlottesville; MHz Worldview, Richmond and Charlottesville) located in Richmond, Virginia, and MHz Networks.

Previously, Monk served as the Chief Financial Officer of the corporation and Vice President for Finance and Treasurer. Before his tenure at Commonwealth Public Broadcasting, he served Crestar Bank for nearly 20 years, most recently as Executive Vice President for Retail Banking-Headquarters Region. He received his MBA from the Colgate Darden School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia, and earned his BS from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

Lisa TaitLisa Tait
Vice President for Development, The Community Idea Stations

Lisa Tait has spent her career in public broadcasting; the past 15 years have been at Community Idea Stations. As the Vice President for Development, she’s in charge of Communications and all of their development practices including Corporate Support, Membership, Major Gifts, and Foundation Grant Writing.

In 2007, Tait was named as PBS Development Professional of the Year, an honor bestowed upon her by her peers from across the country. From 2002-2005, Lisa served on the PBS Development Advisory Committee, the final year as Chair. Lisa is currently involved in the local chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals where she serves on the board, and has also served on the board of the Midlothian Kiwanis Club in the Richmond area.

John H. FeltonJohn H. Felton
Vice President and General Manager for Programming and Production, The Community Idea Stations

John H. Felton serves as Vice President and General Manager for Programming and Production for the Community Idea Stations. Felton has created and developed many local and national series, including “Virginia Home Grown,” “Liberty or Death” and the local performing arts series, “Community Idea Stations Present.” He has also developed a partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University to create “VCU InSight,” a monthly student production overseen by the Community Idea Stations. Prior to his tenure at the Community Idea Stations, Felton held the title of Program Director at WMFE-TV, the Orlando, Florida PBS affiliate.

As an Executive Producer, Felton has received 4 Emmy awards, 6 Telly awards and 5 Communicator awards.

Bill MillerBill Miller
Vice President and General Manager of WCVE Public Radio

Bill Miller has been with the Community Idea Stations since 1993, he is currently Vice President and General Manager of WCVE Public Radio (88.9 WCVE/89.1 WCNV/90.1 WMVE), member supported, locally owned and programmed public radio stations serving the Capital Region, the Northern Neck and southern Virginia’s Lake Country. Prior to the Community Idea Stations, Miller served as Radio Manager at Prairie Public Broadcasting in Bismarck, North Dakota; News Director and Program Director at WMRA Public Radio in Harrisonburg and worked as a reporter for radio, public and commercial television and print.

Miller holds a Bachelors degree from James Madison University, Masters degree from University of North Dakota, and was an adjunct professor at James Madison University and at Bismarck State College. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of the World Affairs Council of Greater Richmond, Crater Community Hospice in Colonial Heights, and Virginia Voice, the radio reading service for people with vision or physical impairments in Richmond; he was elected to serve on the board of Petersburg Chamber of Commerce beginning in 2009.

Applications for speakers should be submitted to us no less than two weeks before the event date. Once the Application Form is submitted, a representative from the Community Idea Stations will contact you. At that time, please confirm event details with the speaker:

  • topic of interest date
  • time and expected duration of presentation
  • location and type of event
  • contact person name and number
  • audio visual equipment requirements (TV, DVD player)
