This Saturday, March 8th, begins the 2014 season for the Great Blue Heron Rookery walks along the James River. The Virginia Audubon Council, Richmond Audubon Society, and the City of Richmond’s James River Park System are teaming up for their 2014 walks on March 8th, March 22nd, April 5th and April 12th each from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the James River Park Pipeline Walk. There will also be an afternoon walk from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. (same location) on Saturday, April 26, in celebration of Earth Day.
Join the fun and enjoy this natural wonder in the midst of the City of Richmond! The Great Blue Herons will, throughout the spring, be courting, nest-building and breeding in preparation for egg-laying and raising their chicks. Every walk will bring its own set of sights and sounds for the whole family to enjoy, so bring your scopes and binoculars and benefit from a morning outdoors! And please wear sensible shoes. You’ll be glad you did!
The charge for each week’s event is $5.00 per person (cash is preferred) for the benefit of Audubon and the James River Park System, to be paid upon meeting in the grassy area just west of 14th Street.
We hope to see you there!
