Mixin’ it Up on a Saturday Night

Darjeeling Limited

One of my favorite functions on my iPod or in my car CD player is the shuffle or random button. Why? Because I like musical surprises, especially after listening to a CD I love in its natural progression over and over and over again. So, after that repetition, I’m always ready to mix it up. With that personal admission said, on this weeks World Music Show (7/14), I’m once again hitting the shuffle button to see where the world musical nuggets fall.

Musique Pop De Global

Vicki C. Barcelona

Let's get right to the task at hand:

I know it's sweltering hot and that to spend time reading text on a piping hot computer screen or smartphone underneath the blazing sun and humidity feels like you're wading through a bowl of hot pudding inside a convection oven is not your idea of fun. So I'll keep it brief, unlike the previous sentance which should win an award for longest run-on at a future Webby Award show.

Global Pop for Pops Around the Globe

Pink Martini

So perhaps this is a "Dad-ism," or an "Ian-ism," as my Dad would say to me when I was younger. I just realized, while starting to write this, that this week's World Music Show (6/16) aires right before Father's Day.

Did I plan out a special show for Dads to enjoy? Not particularly.

But, can I wrap all the songs I'll be playing this Saturday into a nice package with a bow and present it as a Father's Day special? You bet!

It's Time for Lively Live Summer Music

Bebel Gilberto

One of the best things I love about Summer, besides the beach, the food and the Mosquitos (the band, in this case, not the bug), is the ability to see live music. Or maybe in my case now, it's the rememberance of seeing some really great live shows (with two kids and two jobs, it's hard to get out to see music much).

Caetano Veloso

Answer: In one form or another, they are featured on this week's World Music Show (6/2)

Do you find the above list an odd combination for a show about World Music? Like a good puzzle, you'll soon see how these three meet up on this Saturday's show. But first, a humble begining.
