"Sit Down, You're Rocking the Boat" is, in my opinion, the show-stopper from "Guys and Dolls".
It was not, however, Brando's to "sing". This is Nicely-Nicely Johnson's number and was ably performed by a fine and distinguished performer of musical theater, Stubby Kaye.
Great "What if" question, though. What if somebody else besides Brando had had the role of Skye Masterson? Who would you pick?
Thanks. I did enjoy Satchmo's version.
I did reallize this about Brando, I was just alluding to the fact he was a weird choice to play in a musical in the first place. I probably expressed that in a convoluted fashion, though. From what I understand Brando drove the rest of the cast nuts trying to perfect his performance in repeated takes. I think Gene Kelly could have worked nicely as Skye.
Gene Kelly would have been great. Jimmy Cagney, I guess, would have been too old in the early 1950's. But Cagney had that Hell's kitchen Irish tough quality that could have worked were he younger.
