Classical Music with Shawn Evans - Wed, 03/06/2013
Absolutely no music about snow on today's program, although I'll have a few pieces about tears from John Dowland and what Benjamin Britten did with those pieces in the 20th century. At 2 PM, Glenn Winters will be by for Opera Talk with a preview of Virginia Opera's production of Andre Previn's A Streetcar Named Desire this weekend at Carpenter Theatre.

The piece you heard was the Largo from Bach's Harpsichord Concerto in F minor as performed by The Swingle Singers on this recording:

Although the performers are listed in the CD booklet, I'm not certain which soprano performed the piece.
Could you please tell me who was the lovely solo female singer (minimalist scat singer) that you referenced while taking about Streetcar Named Desire (as you were speaking about one of stella's solo, I think). She was not an opera singer, but one voice with one background bass. I'm probably not giving enough info, but I thought I would give it a try. I think the program was great, and I enjoyed listening to the commentary. Thank you!
