Warner Says Republican Tax Bill Figures are Faulty, Urges Bipartisan Effort at Tax Reform

Virginia Senator Mark Warner joined 15 moderate Senate Democrats today (11/28) in urging Republican Senators to abandon their tax legislation and work on a bi-partisan bill that doesn’t grow the deficit.

Warner says the proposed debt is way bigger than Republicans would have you believe. “The real numbers in this bill are not $1.5 trillion. It’s $1.5 trillion plus another $200 billion of debt and $500 billion dollars of gimmicks that run out midstream that will create a whole new set of fiscal cliffs.”

He says the real cost to the American public is $2.2 trillion dollars added to the debt, and he says it is imperative to achieve a bi-partisan tax bill. “We only do tax reform once every generation, last time we did it was 1986. So if we’re going to do it, let’s do it right.”
