The State Council of Higher Education says Virginia students at public colleges and universities are paying more and warns further budget cuts could make it worse. Undergraduates at public four-year institutions can expect to pay an extra $552 this next fiscal year, up 5.7%. Virginia community college students will pay another $180 per year. The State Council of Higher Education says if state revenues shrink further, additional budget reductions may be needed.
Virginia now ranks sixth highest in the nation in tuition and fees at public four-year institutions and the share students pay for their educational costs is at a record high 53%.
