VCU and Children’s Hospital Earn Surgery Accreditation

The VCU Medical Center and its Children’s Hospital of Richmond have earned accreditation as the state’s first metabolic and bariatric surgery centers for adolescents and adults.

An American College of Surgeons program accredits in and outpatient bariatric surgery centers after a rigorous, independent, voluntary peer evaluation.

Dr. David Lanning is surgeon in chief for the Children’s Hospital. He said it’s been found that surgery is safe and effective for obese adults and teenagers.
