The results of the annual Mary Washington University Statewide Survey find Sen. Tim Kaine would defeat three potential Republicans who might run for the job next year.
The university’s Center for Leadership and Media Studies survey proposed Pr. William County Supervisor Chair Corey Stewart, who lost to Ed Gillespie for the Republican nomination for Governor, 7th District Cong. Dave Brat and 2nd District Cong. Scott Taylor, the Director, Dr. Stephen Farnsworth, said Kaine has a double digit advantage over all three. “One of the key markers that you look at is whether the incumbent is over 50% and in all three of those test runs, he was over 50%.”
The three Republicans ran about 30%.
“There is clearly an alternative for a candidate other than Corey Stewart to compete for this Republican nomination. When we asked people whether they liked Corey Stewart vs Steve Taylor and Dave Brat we found that more people liked Taylor.”
