A new study shows that overall child well being has worsened in Virginia over the past year.
The Annie E. Casey Foundation “Kids Count” data report details the status of Virginia’s children in areas including Education, Economic well-being, and Health.
The report shows the number of children living in poverty in Virginia has increased since 2008, from 14 to 16%. Ted Groves, Kids Count Director for Voices of Virginia’s Children, says that one factor influencing these statistics is the fact that many parents are still struggling to find full time employment since the start of the Great Recession.
Groves says 288,000 Virginia children now live in poverty, 41,000 more than in 2008.
