Richmond has a drainage problem. That was the refrain Mayor Levar Stoney heard from Southside residents at a community meeting there last night (7/10).
Rosa Lewis was one of half a dozen residents who spoke out. She says flooding caused by city roads is damaging the foundation of her house. “It’s been a problem for 22 years. We have called and called and called. Nobody’s doing anything.”
The mayor admitted Richmond was overdue for major infrastructure improvements that would cost billions to fix. He promised the city would address every complaint. “And if we don’t take a look at it, I will give you my cell phone number so you can blow me up any time of the night and say, Mr. Mayor, the water is still here. I was being facetious, everybody.”
Rosa Lewis said she’ll believe it when she sees it.
