The Trump administration has exempted the state of Florida from controversial plans for offshore drilling for oil and gas, and Virginia Democratic Senator Tim Kaine says what is good for Florida is good for Virginia.
Senator Kaine says if Republican Governor Scott can get an exemption, Virginia should, too. “In the words of the secretary of the interior, local voices matter. Well, if local voices matters, why haven’t they excluded Virginia, because both the current governor and the governor-elect asked them to exclude Virginia as the Governor of Florida did. Is it because the Governor of Florida is a Republican and the Virginia Governors are Democrats?”
Governor Scott, who is expected to run for an open senate seat, cheered the decision, saying he would “never stop fighting for Florida’s environment and our pristine coastline.”
Senator Kaine says Virginia deserves the same consideration.
