A surprise notice of staff transfers in Westmoreland County Schools is causing a stir. There is a published report that secretaries, nurses, and phys ed teachers are among those being moved. School Board Chair Iris Lane told the Northern Neck News the transfers are based on need. That, she said, could include budget, greater need for a particular skill, or operational needs. She added that School Supt. Rebecca Lowry is looking for ways to improve the school system and transfers are possible. Dr. Lowry said that transfers aren’t typically handled by the school board, they are a part of daily operation of the school division. She said needs were identified and the goal is effectiveness and efficiency to address student academics.
