Teachers in the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula may qualify for scholarships to learn more about marine ecology this summer.
The Teachers On The Bay class is open to teachers K-12 – five days this summer in which they will receive intense, hands-on instruction about the environment in which they, as well as their students, live.
Program director Bill Portlock says among the course goals is showing teachers how to incorporate local environmental lessons into their curriculum.
The class is run by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, St. Margaret's School and VCU.
The Northern Neck Audubon Society, Garden Club of the Northern Neck, and Middle Peninsula Garden Club are funding the scholarships, estimated at $350 per enrolled teacher.
