Richmond and Henrico Police Hold Safety Seminars For Faith Community

Both Richmond and Henrico have scheduled forums this week for religious gathering places to increase their security and help to protect people within and the surrounding property.

The programs are not new, but have gotten increased attention as the result of the Texas shootings. Richmond Police Lt. Ken Roane says they plan to share simple procedures that can dramatically increase the security of these sanctuaries.

For example, Roane says, “Having the hosts and greeters be visible and be vigilant while they are…during the service…before service as well as after service…when they interact with people in the parking lot and say hello…if you see anything out of place…notify the appropriate authorities.”

There is much more. Richmond’s forum is Saturday, Henrico’s is Thursday.

“We just provide information that many of our congregations can use to help them feel more comfortable,” Roane added.
