Richmond Ambulance Authority and VCU Testing Stroke Assessment

The Richmond Ambulance Authority and the VCU Medical Center have been working on a new stroke assessment pilot program.

Pre Alert is a telemedicine solution that will allow doctors at the hospital to assess a stroke patient while in the ambulance.

Dr. Sherita Chapman Smith is leading the program, she is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at VCU. Stroke, she noted, is the leading cause of disability and death in this country.

The hope is to have the PreAlert up and running in six months to a year.
