Rebuttal Witnesses Continue in McDonnell Trial

The prosecution in the corruption trial against former Governor Bob McDonnell and his wife Maureen will call at least one more rebuttal witness before the jury instruction conference begins.

Yesterday (8/27) for rebuttal, the prosecution called James Abel, a party planner from New York, who said he and Maureen McDonnell’s former Chief of Staff never discussed an Anatabloc launch at the mansion.

Also on hand was Matt Hunter, a former Star Scientific employee who told jurors he met Jonnie Williams at a Richmond Cracker Barrel to drive the millionaire’s Ferrari to Smith Mountain Lake, specifically for the Governor’s use. Hunter said he parked it in the driveway so the Governor would see it and left the keys in the driver’s seat. Williams paid $686 for a town car to take Hunter back to the Richmond Cracker Barrel.
