Petersburg Fire Chief Douses Reports of His Resignation

After a report in a New York newspaper that Mark Twain had died, the author said, “reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” Petersburg Fire Chief Dennis Rubin said he felt that way yesterday.

A local TV station reported that Chief Rubin was planning to resign. “I’m pleased to report that on the 15th of May I’ve served one year with the City of Petersburg and continue to be here on the 16th of May.”

The reporter, he said, never contacted him. “The information was inaccurate and, quite frankly, without merit.”

It is, the Chief said, a “non-story.” The fire department has new equipment and morale is high, and he’s been working hard, he said, on long term plans.

“Each and every day we simply get better. We have some of the best employees in the area, without a doubt, they’re incredible firefighters, emergency medical technicians and paramedics and I’m proud to be a part, a small part, of a great organization.”
