The Petersburg City Council last night (6/6) adopted a proposed fiscal 2018 budget.
Interim Finance Director Nelsie Birch said the most important item was the restoration of the 10% pay cut that city employees have had to live with since Petersburg financial situation became critical.
"The next thing that’s important is we are reestablishing a stable, realistic budget that will get a fund balance if its managed appropriately."
In addition, she noted, council is interviewing finalists for city manager on Saturday. There are now some top leadership changes - a chief financial officer and a redefined deputy city manager responsible for operations.
"The new city manager will have a team that he or she can be successful in continuing the efforts to move the city forward financially, professionally, administratively, and strategically."
