Microsoft is again expanding its data operations in southwest Virginia. Mecklenburg County Manager Wayne Carter says Microsoft is investing $346 million dollars in this third expansion, creating 90 additional jobs. Microsoft chose Mecklenburg County in 2010, investing $499 million dollars and creating 50 new jobs. A year later $1.3 million was invested and last year there was a $348 million expansion. Carter pointed out that job creation has not been limited to the Microsoft campus, the impact has also been felt by the motel owners around the lakes. Carter explained that bringing Microsoft to Mecklenburg was a local and state effort partnering with Dominion Virginia Power and the Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation.
