McDonnell Corruption Trial Begins in Virginia

The corruption trial of former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell and former first lady Maureen McDonnell begins today in federal district court in Richmond. The McDonnells face 14 corruption charges related to accepting over $165,000 in gifts and loans from Johnnie Williams, the former CEO of struggling dietary supplement manufacturer Star Scientific, who had asked the first couple for help promoting his products.  The former Governor has apologized for questionable conduct, but insists his actions were legal.  Lawyers for the defense and prosecution are under gag orders for the duration of the trial.  More than 150 potential jurors will be screened today in what court officials hope will be a one day selection process.
