Governor Terry McAuliffe announced yesterday (9/2) that Dominion Resources will partner with AGL Resources, Duke Energy and Piedmont Natural Resources to build a $5 billion Atlantic Coast natural gas pipeline. The construction and permitting phase alone will generate nearly $1.4 billion in economic activity in Virginia and create 8,800 new Virginia jobs.
Dominion says the pipeline will help the state recruit new heavy manufacturing operations to Virginia and prevent price spikes from disrupted supply.
Glen Besa, Director of the Virginia Sierra Club, says he’s disappointed that McAuliffe’s first energy announcement is based on fossil fuels.
The partners hope to complete the project in 2018.
