A Chesterfield County man has been cited for attempting to bring a loaded handgun past a security checkpoint at Richmond International Airport. The weapon was a .357 caliber handgun with five rounds. The Transportation Security Administration says officers stopped the man from bringing the weapon past an airport security checkpoint. They say an x-ray machine detected the handgun inside the travelers carry-on bag as it passed along the conveyor belt. Richmond International Airport Police cited the Chesterfield County man on a weapons charge. They did not release his name.
This is the second time in a month officers have detected a firearm at the airport. Weapons are not permitted in carryon bags, but can be transported in checked bags if they are unloaded, properly packed and declared to the airline.
